A wonderful spread chlamys
Lot 2773
Licinius I, 308-324. Follis (Silvered bronze, 20 mm, 3.40 g, 12 h), Rome, 315-316. IMP LICINIVS P F AVG Laureate and cuirassed bust of Licinius I to right. Rev. SOLI IN-VI-CTO COMITI / C - S / RIP (sic!) Sol, nude but for spread chlamys hanging behind, standing front, head to left, raising his right hand in salute and holding globe in his left. RIC -. Apparently unpublished and unique. Struck from a slightly clashed reverse die, otherwise, good very fine.

From the collection of Dr. L. Ramskold, privately acquired from C. J. Martin on 18 June 1998.

RIC does not record any coin showing Sol with the chlamys spread in this emission. The mint mark includes a vertical line in the center, probably an engraver's error.
